About MotherbirthCo

In 2020, I decided to open an Etsy shop as a way to bring in a little more income as a stay-at-home mom. It started as Hinterland Craft Co where I screen-printed custom birth announcement baby bodysuits. Over the next two years, I tried out several other products such as hand embroidered baby bodysuits, herbal products and tallow products. By this time, I wanted to get more serious about the business and have it be successful enough to bring my husband home to work with me. 2022 became a pivot point for the business and MotherbirthCo was born.

In early 2022, with the savings I had and the business’s portion of our tax return, I purchased our first embroidery machine and asked Levi if I could use $500 of our savings to purchase 50 baby quilts. At worse case, I hoped that I would sell them all within a year. I would not be exaggerating to say that very rapidly the blanket we offered became very popular. Within a short time Levi had to take over embroidering while I handled customer communication and the other things that go into creating the blanket. It took roughly a full year of us investing profit back into the business to find a balance between supply and demand, plus purchasing everything we needed in order to handle the growth. Today, we have seven machines, new products being developed and our oldest working with us. Levi has taken over all embroidering, processing, packaging, accounting and advertising.

The next stage of MotherbirthCo is being launched in early 2025 (just about the time I give birth to our sixth girl!). In addition to embroidered baby quilts, we will be offering postpartum and self-care gift boxes for moms (from brand new to veteran). Our focus started as, and will continue to be, on moms, babies and offering a quality product with excellent customer service.

About Levi

Life is a journey, right? So where to begin this about me section, while keeping it brief, I'm not so sure. When my wife began her shop on Etsy I was in college. Prior to that I was in the military for nine years. I graduated college in 2020, or 2021, with a degree in Biblical studies. After a semester off I decided to return to schooling for a Masters degree. After a month or two into the program I dropped out since I did not agree with what was being taught. I spent probably six months trying to figure out what I would do for work (my time in the military ended due to injuries sustained while on a deployment, therefore my work options are to a degree somewhat limited). At this point we had two or three children. I spent this time reading, gardening and thinking, I guess -- I really can't remember clearly. That said, as my wife wrote above, after she purchased baby blankets and listed them on Etsy, one day they rapidly began to gain traction. I entered into the business with her and have been working in it ever since.

Where we are today: We process about 4,000-5,000 blankets a year. We're welcoming our sixth little girl in the middle of March 2025. We're also currently working on a care box for mom -- with new babies always receiving the gifts, we wanted to offer something for mom also.

I enjoy reading ancient historical works and studying human history from a Christian point of view, though at times I feel burned out on the endeavor.
